Bob Summers

Bob Summers started the cross country program at Mabton in 1965 and coached there for 6 years.  He took the tiny B school and ultimately finished 3rd in the Mid-Valley AA League.  After Mabton he moved to Tolt High School in Carnation where he resurrected a program that had dissolved two years previously.  In his second year at Tolt he led the Demon boys to their first Cascade League Championship.  Over the course of 22 years at Tolt, he took countless teams to State, at one point making nine consecutive trips to the Championships.  His 1975 boys team placed 4th in State, and in l985 the boys placed third.  Bob’s crowning achievements came in l976 and l978, when the boys took home the State Title.  Bob spent 22 years as the head CC coach and retired in l992.  After his retirement he was assistant coach in both CC and track at Seattle Christian School.  In l994 Seattle Christian’s Head Coach took a one-year sabbatical, and Bob filled in with typical outstanding results….the Warriors posted their first winning record in League History.
