4th Annual Whitworth University Track and Field “Speed Development and Conditioning” Coaches Clinic
Date: Saturday Feb 16, 2008 - 8:30am -2:00pm
Location: Whitworth University – Spokane, WA (Music Recital Hall – Music Building)
Clock hours: Five (5) WIAA approved clock hours will be provided.
This clinic is designed to provide both new and veteran high school and middle school track and field coaches with increased knowledge in the areas of speed development AND conditioning for ALL events in track and field (not merely sprints). Areas of emphasis will include a variety of possible warm-up and cool-down routines, core strength routines, flexibility through dynamic and static stretching routines, strength training (both weight and non-weight routines), plyometric routines (both upper and lower body), speed development drills, speed development workouts, biomechanical principles of speed, periodization of speed (setting up a daily, weekly and season practice schedule), injury prevention, nutrition, and rest/recovery. Other areas will also be provided if time allows.
Information will be presented in lecture form, with additional information presented through demonstrations, handouts and learn-by-doing.
Each coach will be provided a packet of notes, including well over 200 sample workouts, exercises and routines.
Snacks and Lunch will be provided (included in cost).
